In love and gratitude to God I wish to express something...
In love and gratitude to God I wish to express something of what Christian Science has done for me. I was led to study Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, through the healing of a relative, who had suffered for years from rheumatic trouble and was finally given up as incurable. At first I could not understand the text-book; it seemed to be different from anything I had ever read. I was not looking for, or expecting any physical benefits from the study, but what was most wonderful to me, although my understanding of it was so limited the blessings were manifold. I found that my eyesight was greatly strengthened: bowel trouble of long standing was overcome; disturbed dreams, to which I had been subject for years, ceased to trouble me, and above all is the spiritual uplifting and peace of mind, for which I cannot be grateful enough. After I had been in Science only a few months I was attacked by three dogs while going through a piece of woods. Although I have always been fond of domestic animals, I had a fear of strange dogs, and these bore down on me so quickly and were so vicious that I had no time to defend myself. After kicking at them for a few seconds, in retreating backwards I stumbled and fell, and about this time the owner of the dogs came out and called them off. When I came to examine myself, I found I had two very bad bites, one on my arm and the other on my leg. I treated myself in Christian Science the best I knew, and went that afternoon for a treatment from a practitioner. I was then entertaining feelings of resentment against the dogs, against the owner for allowing such vicious animals to run at large, and against the city authorities for allowing such conditions; but as the practitioner talked with me my whole thought was changed. The swelling went down while I was there, and I never experienced the slightest pain or inconvenience from the injuries afterwards, the one treatment having overcome the trouble entirely. I am very grateful to Mrs. Eddy for the truth revealed through "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures."—Wm. J. Benner, Indianapolis, Ind.
