Sixteen years ago I became interested in Christian Science...

Sixteen years ago I became interested in Christian Science through the healing of my mother. I did not. however, wish to place my confidence in any religion too soon, lest I might find it lacking and make a shipwreck of my faith, so I first studied the New Testament and then Science and Health, and became sure that no logic could disprove them. They bring that peace which passes understanding and that sense of God, good, which feeds "the famished affections" (Science and Health, p. 17). This truth immediately became of help to me in every branch of my business affairs, and gained me the first word of commendation from my employers. Later I was taken with a serious form of lung trouble, and for seven days was without food and for the most part unconscious, but at the end of that time the healing was truly wonderful. I have valued this experience, as it taught me many things. We all may learn from our struggles as well as form our victories, but if we have no battles we shall have no victories. Experience teaches us the mental process by which we become sick or sinful, and also how to guard against these thoughts and become well and happy, thus proving Christian Science an exact science. It has healed thousands, and prevented even more disease than it has healed. Paul tells us, "Prove all things; hold fast that which is good," and blessed is he who through the knowledge gained from Mrs. Eddy's teaching rejects evil without trying it at all. She has proved to us the value of man's long-forgotten inheritance, and God has blessed her for so doing.
