Christian Science is Christian, scientific, and practical,...
Santa Cruz (Cal.) Sentinel
Christian Science is Christian, scientific, and practical, for the following reasons: It is Christian, because it is in harmony with the teachings of Christ Jesus, spiritually understood, and proves that they are true. It is scientific, because it reveals a knowledge of God, Spirit, the divine Principle and creator of the universe, and His spiritual law, which constitutes true science. It is practical because it enables its adherents to practise the teachings of Christ Jesus, reforming the sinner, healing the sick, and proving in daily life that divine Love supplies every need.
Since Christian Science demonstrates that the power of God is sufficient, when rightly utilized, to heal the sick, it is not necessary to use material remedies; and if we are depending upon God to heal, the use of such remedies would show a lack of faith in His power, and hinder rather than help the cure. Jesus said: "It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing;" and Christian Scientists accept that statement. While Christ healed the sick instantaneously, it was not always so with his early disciples. When they brought to Jesus one they could not heal, he said it was because of their unbelief, and he healed him. ... When Christian Science is better understood the healing will be more quickly accomplished. If Christian Scientists do not use the same formula of words that the early disciples sometimes used in healing, the spirit is the same, and that is the essential part. Where the Bible says, "Faith without works is dead," it does not mean that one must use drugs in order to help God heal the sick, for Jesus did not do so, nor so instruct his disciples. If faith does not result in healing works it shows that the faith was dead, or, in other words, was not faith, but unbelief; for Jesus told his disciples that if they had faith even as a grain of mustard seed, nothing should be impossible unto them.
Christian Science is making the practical application of Jesus' teachings which the world and the Church so much desire, and it is because of this that so many are accepting its teachings and receiving its benefits.
