ONE STRONG POINT

Portsmouth (Ohio) Times

How much basic truth there is in Christian Science, the Times is not prepared either to assert or deny. Of a truth it is not deeply concerned either way, for its platform is to let people believe in peace what they choose, so long as they lead orderly lives and do not menace the public good or morals. There is one thing, however, it does greatly admire in the new faith, and that is its zeal in correcting misstatements about itself and the sweet and gentle spirit in which it proceeds to this work. No matter how obscure the paper that makes any animadversions upon this faith, it is certain to be asked the privilege of showing their falsity. The request is so politely put and the answer so surely one that turneth away wrath, that no editor half way fit to be one can refuse it. . .

While we do not believe any of the preachments of this church or religion, we think we are able to account for its rather remarkable growth in its practice of liberality and consideration, it apparently being willing to let every other man work out his salvation according to his own light if he does not disturb it.
