For fifteen years I was considered an invalid
For fifteen years I was considered an invalid. After receiving medical treatment without any benefit, dieting was recommended. This rule was followed until the diet was reduced almost to nothing; and even then it seemed distressing to eat. Not being satisfied with this state of affairs, another doctor was consulted, and once in two months I traveled two hundred miles to see this doctor and to take treatment of him. This continued for a year and a half, but to my disappointment I was no better. In the course of a few months I found myself in worse condition than ever before. The same doctor then advised an operation, and gave me the hope that after it was performed I would surely be well. I submitted, but after it was over I was no better. I was taken home, and was not able to go out of my room for months; indeed I was hardly able to see any one. Another doctor was then secured, who left me very near death's door. At this time Christian Science was recommended. I felt willing to try it, but had very little hope that I should ever be well again. In a week's time, however, I was looking at things very differently. I had thought I could not read, but found I could read Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. My eyes improved; I began to eat anything and all I wanted, and have done so ever since. My healing was slow but sure. Every battle that I had in the overcoming of error with truth lifted me out of misery into harmony, whereas, when I was dealing with materia medica, I sank deeper all the time.
Since my healing I have had many proofs of God's loving care in healing sickness and sin, and have had occasion to rejoice every day that there was found one worthy to bear this message of Truth and Love to a sin-sick world. The Bible is no longer a closed book, but is full of precious promises for all who are willing to accept and live the truth.—MRS. LIZZIE B. MESSER, Randolph, Vt.
