A little over five years ago Christian Science was first...
A little over five years ago Christian Science was first brought to my notice. I had been a sufferer for seven years with lung trouble, supposedly inherited. During this time I employed seven different physicians, all of whom gave the same verdict, and asked if the trouble was not inherited. Three of our family had already died with the dreaded disease. At this time I was in bed most of the time, and had at different times very serious attacks. The last physician told me that in less than a year's time I would be in my grave. All my money had been spent, with only temporary relief and no hope. Although I sought health in every direction, I was getting worse all the time.
A lady who was called a faith curist by my neighbors was watched very closely by me, as she always seemed happy. Meeting her on the street one day, I asked if she did not attend the "faith cure church." She replied, "It is not 'faith cure,' but Christian Science, which must be understood." She then referred me to the first chapter of Genesis, where we are told that God's creation is good and that His children are created in His image and likeness. I told her that I had three children who needed me, and that I did not want to die. She said I need not die if I followed the teachings of Christ Jesus, and she also referred me to the passage in Ezekiel, "I have no pleasure in the depth of him that dieth, saith the Lord God: wherefore turn yourselves, and live ye." My healing began then, and the alarming conditions ceased. I attended services at First Church of Christ, Scientist, and studied the text-book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures." As before stated, all my means had been spent, so I have had to prove that in God is all supply, and this has been shown in many ways during my study of Christian Science. For all these blessings I am truly grateful, and especially thankful to God for sending some one who was pure enough to make the teachings of Jesus practical.
