My experience in this new-old truth has been that it is based on a self-proving Principle, ever-operative and available, and is not dependent upon human belief. Eight years of alternating hope and disappointment, and the final decision of physicians that my case was incurable, had brought me to utter despair. I did not myself believe there was any cure for me, and my husband was of the same opinion. At Cleveland, O., in the spring of 1898, a friend persuaded me to go with her "just to talk" with a Christian Science practitioner. I had no intention of taking treatment, as I had no belief in it whatever. I found the practitioner a picture of health. She kindly answered my questions, and talked with me I think about three hours. My impression was that her health was genuine, from the true source. The idea of Christian healing, and that God could sustain His creatures, was certainly good and had a ring of truth about it. I took one treatment, and was healed of indigestion of long standing, and was so much better of other troubles that I continued treatment until I was well. I could scarcely tell of all the ills that were overcome. One was a trouble which three physicians did their best to cure, and then showed me in their books that it was incurable by medicines but was temporarily relieved by remedies they had used. Then surgery was resorted to. Each operation—I underwent three—seemed to bring about worse conditions, until the surgeons said they could do no more. These operations caused a partial paralysis and a very distressing nervous derangement,—I do not think an organ of my body was performing its functions normally. However, a few months' treatment in Christian Science overcame all of this, and for about seven years I have enjoyed absolute health. Christian Science has not only healed me of my diseases, but is teaching me how the understanding of Truth heals and harmonizes, bringing out the true conditions here and now. I am very grateful that this truth has come to light again, and grateful to Mrs. Eddy for teaching, living, proving, and establishing it in this age.
