A CHRISTIAN SCIENTIST VIEW
London (England) News
The Committee on Publication of the Christian Science churches in London writes: "At this season of the year many engage in festivities, nominally to commemorate the birth of Jesus, the Christ, but in reality with little idea of the wonderful birth and career of the most spiritual thought that ever appeared to mankind. The birth of Jesus was the appearing of the spiritual idea seen humanly as a babe. Referring to human relationship, when the name mother is mentioned what a flood of memory it brings to those who have experienced the unselfish love and tender care of a devoted mother! . . .
"The thought of Jesus should bring to every one some understanding of what lies behind the name—a deeper, higher consciousness of the self-abnegation and wondrous love for mankind, coupled with the knowledge of God as perfect good, which qualified Jesus to do his mighty works. He stilled the tempest, walked the waves, healed the sick, and raised the dead, in defiance of material laws, and taught his disciples to do likewise. . . .
"What was it that enabled Jesus to accomplish such wonders? It was the understanding of God as Love that gave him the power to overcome sin, sickness, and death. It is the spiritual idea again born in consciousness that enables Christian Scientists to obey the command, 'Heal the sick,' as well as the accompanying one. 'Preach the gospel.' . . .
