Manchester (England) Daily Dispatch

A congregation, consisting of about one hundred Manchester adherents of Christian Science, assembled at the annual thanksgiving service at the Victoria Park Church last night [Dec. 31]. Gratitude was fervently expressed for the benefits, moral and physical, which their faith had brought them during the past twelve months, and dignified rebukes were administered to the skeptics who have been exploiting the alleged collapse of Mrs Eddy, the Founder of the Church.

Some remarkable testimonies of cures effected by Christian. Science were also forthcoming. One gentleman, who declared he had never been strong and always broke down after any extra exertion, said that as the result of an internal injury four years ago he endured a long illness. Every sort of treatment was tried, but he grew steadily worse. When Christian Science was first suggested he scoffed at the idea, but ultimately in despair he tried it. After the first treatment he was able to run upstairs quite easily, and to-day his health is better than it ever was before.

A lady then got up to give expression to her gratitude to God, and to Mrs. Eddy, not only for healing her physically, but for healing her feelings of anxiety. Other testimonies followed. A lady expressed her gratitude for the fact that joy and peace and perfect health had been hers for the last eight years. Another lady testified that three years ago she had been cured of curvature of the spine by Christian Science. A lady who had suffered for five years from neuralgia, and never had twenty-four hours' ease during that period, declared that from the day she entered the church up to the present she has never suffered from the pain. A gentleman was full of gratitude for the effect of his faith on the success of his business. Christian Science, he declared, had helped him in every way in his business, and when he looked back on the result of the year's work he had reason to be thankful. Testimony was given by a lady of the effect of Mrs. Eddy's teaching in soothing and allaying the anxieties and irritations of a mother in dealing with her children.
