Almost seven years ago, when material remedies had failed to cure me of an internal disease of long standing,—failed even to give relief,—I was pronounced incurable, and materia medica gave me up to die. One treatment in Christian Science then restored me, mentally and physically. At the extreme moment, while I lay unconscious, a lady asked my husband to try Christian Science, and he, taking her advice, went for a practitioner. The result was as I have stated, so that my first introduction to Christian Science was after it had helped me. I had never heard even the name previous to that time. What a transformation,—from unconsciousness to consciousness, from sickness to health, from weakness to strength. Best of all, I turned from belief in a false theology—that God is the author of sickness, sending it upon us for chastisement—into the glorious knowledge of Truth, the teaching that God is Love, and "a very present help in trouble;" the healer of "all" our diseases; "not willing that any should perish." I was a member of an orthodox church at that time, and after feeling the power of Truth through the effectual, fervent prayer of a Christian Scientist, the question arose, What shall I do? Go back to the doctrines of my fathers, as taught in the church to which I belonged, I could not, as they do not accept the healing now, believing and teaching that it was only for a special time and for the few; so that to me the question was not long unanswered. One week after receiving my first treatment I attended a Christian Science service in Winnipeg, Manitoba,—where I then resided,—and the beautiful, holy, uplifting truths, living truths, given out at that service brought to my eyes tears of gratitude to God for the freedom from bondage which I began to realize as my portion. Since then I have been a constant attendant and within a short time became a member of the church in Winnipeg, uniting with The Mother Church a year later.

Three days after hearing of Christian Science and being so marvelously healed, I asked the practitioner to treat my boy, then six and a half years old, who according to materia medica had serious lung trouble, and no hope of cure was held out, although he had been treated by the best doctors in Montreal. One of the leading pulmonary specialists of that day gave no encouragement that he would live very long. Under such conditions Christian Science treatment was applied, and within a short time a marked improvement was the result. He has since developed into a healthy, strong boy, indulging in all the boyish sports of winter and summer with no fear of heat, cold, or dampness—cured of lung disease through the application of the truth as understood in Christian Science. For almost seven years the truth has been our only remedy in destroying every form of evil. The way has not been easy; but through steadfastly clinging to the truth and denying the seeming power of error, the result has been freedom from all physical ailments.

I am deeply grateful for the understanding of God and our relation to Him which comes to us through the teaching of Christian Science. My gratitude to Mrs. Eddy, our beloved Leader, who has indeed given to us the "Key to the Scriptures," cannot find expression in mere words; the only reasonable gratitude we can show is in daily service, striving to live the spiritual truths which she makes practical, through the study of her priceless gift to humanity, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures."
