I wish to express some of the gratitude I feel to Christian Science...

I wish to express some of the gratitude I feel to Christian Science for the wonderful benefits that have come to me through its teachings. In the latter part of December, 1905, after nearly four months of dangerous illness, my doctor told me that it would be necessary for me to go to a hospital for the removal of an abnormal growth, and that it would take me some three months to recover from the effects of the operation. At that time I was almost a physical wreck; could remain on my feet but a few moments at a time, and was in continual pain. Some good friends at once began to talk Christian Science to me. I knew some lovely people who were Scientists, and believed that they might cure people who had nervous or imaginary ailments, but two of our best doctors had told me of my condition, and I failed to see where any help could come in my case; however, after much persuasion on the part of my friends, I tried Christian Science treatment for one week, and without the knowledge of the practitioner took with it most faithfully all the medicine the doctor had left me. At the end of the week I was if possible in a worse condition than before. However, I had become interested in the reading of Science and Health, and some Sentinels and Journals which had been sent me, and when the doctor specified a time for me to go to the hospital, I made up my mind then and there, that if there was anything in Christian Science I proposed to have it, before going through the terrible ordeal which was facing me. I went to a practitioner, a lady whom I had known for a number of years, and I went with the belief that I could rely upon whatever she told me. When I left her, after that first treatment, I was confident that I would be healed. I went home and had my mother gather up all my medicine—a large basketful—and destroy it.

That was ten months ago, and to-day I am in perfect health. Since my healing, which took but a few weeks, I have had many other blessings, and should particularly like to mention the overcoming of my fear for those near and dear to me. Formerly I would pass hours of agony if they were away from me, thinking of all the dreadful things that might happen to them, thus making them and myself most unhappy. Now I realize that it is God's care and not mine which protects them. For these and many other blessings I am truly grateful to Christian Science.
