About eight years ago I was healed, in four weeks' treatment in Christian Science, of ailments extending over a period of twenty-five years and as a result of which I had paid on an average one hundred dollars a year to physicians, without any good effect. I had been under the care of several physicians in my own town, and for twenty years under the care at different times of two prominent specialists of Philadelphia, who were treating me for abnormal growths. Finally the time came when I was told that I must undergo a surgical operation, as serious consequences would result if this were neglected. Then my courage gave way, and I was overwhelmed with distress because of my fear of the surgeon's knife, although I was assured by the attending physician that there was no danger worth considering; but this did not give me any comfort. At this time, and after I had consented to go to a hospital for the operation, Christian Science was spoken of to me by a dear friend as a possible way of escape from that which I so much feared. She could tell very little about it, but had heard that it cured disease; so I decided to ask help from a practitioner, and if I was not benefited soon, to go to the hospital as had been planned.

I cannot tell the joy I experienced in the freedom from the burden of suffering and haunting fear I had been under all these years, but I give unceasing thanks to God, who has given us. through our Leader, Mrs. Eddy, an understanding of the truths Jesus taught and proved so long ago and which are to-day blessing the whole world.
