Phillips Brooks said, "Prayer is not conquering God's reluctance, but taking hold of God's willingness." It is not our purpose to provoke controversy, but it does seem to us it is the grasping of the above truth that has given impetus to the Christian Science cult. We might go on to dissent from many of the deductions of these people, but, as stated, we are not seeking controversy. With those of us who believe in God it is too often the case that we have the idea, either expressed or implied, that it is God who must be moved, when, as a matter of fact, He only waits for us to appropriate His blessings. Do we need help? It is already provided. Do we want peace? It is ours any moment we will to do God's will. Verily, "prayer is not conquering God's reluctance, but taking hold of God's willingness."
