About four years ago I found it necessary to have some...

About four years ago I found it necessary to have some teeth extracted, and the fear of the pain was more than I could overcome, so I went to a Christian Science practitioner, who gave me treatment. I then went to a dentist who had been recommended, and on examination he found twelve or thirteen teeth to extract. When all was ready he asked if I would take an anesthetic. I answered in the negative. He then brought some brandy, which he said it would be necessary for me to take. I again refused, assuring him I did not need it. I also objected to the use of cocaine. He then warned me of the danger of collapse, but I told him I felt quite equal to the task, and if he found, after he had extracted one or two teeeth, that I was giving him any trouble, I would then submit to any treatment he might advise. He then extracted four teeth, and asked if I would not rest. I said not until they were all out; and the work was completed without interruption. The dentist was much pleased, and said he had never in all his practice seen anything like it, with man or woman. I then told him something of this blessed truth that had given me the strength to endure and quieted my fears. This is only one of the many benefits I have received from Christian Science, for all of which I am truly grateful.
