About three years ago I became interested in Christian Science,...
About three years ago I became interested in Christian Science, having been sick for twenty-eight months with heart trouble and nervous prostration. My physician called in a specialist, who examined me, and the verdict was that I could not live three months. I afterwards had another doctor, and I remember well the morning when he told my husband and son that my life-work was ended. Sometimes I would feel a little better, but in a short time I would be as badly off as ever and would be obliged to go to bed again. The last time, I was for ten weary months so sick that I could not leave my bed at all. It was at this time that a friend wanted me to try Christian Science. A practitioner called, and after taking a few treatments I tried to walk, as a little child begins, by holding on to articles of furniture. My ankles would turn, but I kept on, and in a few weeks I could walk quite well and help myself, and I have been able to care for myself ever since. When I could get out in the sunshine again it seemed as if the sky had never looked so blue. One day I met one of my former doctors. He was greatly surprised to see me looking so well, and asked me a great many questions about my healing. At another time I went into a store and the wife of the proprietor, who knew all about my sickness, asked me how it came about that I was so well, and I told her it was all through Christian Science. As we came out of the store we met the same doctor again, and the lady, calling his attention to me, said, "Look at the resurrection!" His answer was, "Yes, and I wish that every one could do as well as she has done." It would be impossible to tell all that Christian Science has done for me. While I was being helped by the study, my husband met with an accident. He sprained his ankle severely, but through the help of Christian Science he was able to get about again on the third day. He was also enabled to leave off a truss which he had worn for three years. These latter demonstrations came to us through the study of Science and Health without other help.
For all these blessings I am grateful to God, and to the pure, noble woman who has given her life to show us the way out of the darkness into the light.
