"Seek ye first the kingdom of God."

Christian Scientists whose names appear in the Directory of Practitioners in The Christian Science Journal, also Readers in the branch churches, frequently receive circulars offering them an opportunity to make a fortune by investing any sum between five dollars and five thousand in some undeveloped but promising enterprise, which they are assured will pay phenomenal dividends at sometime in a more or less remote future. To most of those who receive such circulars, if we may judge from the complaints that have reached us, this form of advertising has become an unmitigated nuisance.

One of the latest of these circulars is specially addressed to Christian Scientists who are supposed to possess a large circle of acquaintances and considerable influence. It offers a commission upon all shares of stock sold by the persons to whom the circulars are addressed; and in order to prove that the peddling of this stock is a laudable undertaking in which teachers of Christian Science may engage, a quotation alleged to be from an early edition of Science and Health is made a part of the circular. This latter feature is somewhat new in this style of advertising, but we doubt if it will be any more successful than the representation so frequently relied upon in the past, that "All officers of the company are Christian Scientists, and stock will be sold to Christian Scientists only."

We have on several occasions called the attention of our readers to the fact that it would be well for those persons who have money to invest, to part with it only after careful investigation of the enterprise in which they are solicited to take stock, and after they have satisfied themselves that the business is well established and profitable. The mere fact that some one who represents himself to be a Christian Scientist is connected with the company, is not sufficient guarantee that the investment is a good one.
