Our critic states that "the defect of Christian Science is that it ignores or seems to ignore the principle of the Cross. Not in denying, but is accepting pain, is oftentimes the noblest way to encounter it."

Christian Scientists do not construe the taking up of the cross as a mere resignation to suffering, but a rising superior to it, on the ground that Jesus would not have healed disease if it had been God's will for it to remain. He came to destroy the works of the devil, and he evidently classified sickness as one of them.
