Hoping that thereby some one may find encouragement...
Hoping that thereby some one may find encouragement to seek help through Christian Science, I gladly give this testimony. I had heard of Science some years before accepting it, in fact, many of my dear friends were believers and followers, and had been healed thereby.
About a year and a half ago I was compelled to give Christian Science a test, not wholly for my own relief, but to prove its virtue before consenting to have one whom I held most dear, place herself under treatment. I called upon a practitioner, and after a short talk on the fundamentals of the religion and the foundation of its claim that the healing power of God is at hand now, as in ancient days, I decided to give it a trial, conditionally.
At that time I was suffering from almost every ill to which mortls are subject. For fifteen years I had been troubled with constipation, so badly that it was necessary every night, and sometimes oftener, to take medicine of some kind. I therefore told the practitioner that he could try one of my minor ailments (referring to the above), but that I should continue my medical treatment for my other troubles. He said this was an unusual proposition, and one most practitioners would be loth to undertake, but inasmuch as my views of God were so much in line with those held in the Christian Science church he would take my case. Had I been honest, I would have been healed during the first week's treatment, as I know the effect of the work done was manifest the first day, but I would not accept it, therefore the one talent given me was taken away. I was faithful, however, in not resorting to any material help for that trouble, but at the end of the week I was brought face to face with this question, "Have you been honest, have you given them a fair trial?" The answer was "No;" "Then what have you if you go back to your old way?" "Nothing." "Now what will you do?" The decision was to be honest with these people and trust God to the best of my understanding. With that decision all medicine, and some that I thought very precious, was thrown away, and I went to my practitioner and told him I was ready to trust all to God.
