Reading (Pa.) Eagle

In dealing with the subject of healing and when discussing the question of what constitutes the best method of treating the sick, the Christian Scientist speaks from a somewhat broader experience than does his neighbor. Not only has he, as a rule, experimented largely with medicine, but, profiting by experience, he finds more efficacy in appealing to God direct.

Christian Science is based on common sense. It teaches that the heavenly Father is a very present help in time of trouble. Further than this, it insists that God can and does answer prayer. The Christian Scientist takes God at His word. He believes that the promises in the 91st Psalm can be trusted implicitly. The teaching of our Saviour appeals to him as a practical plan whereby human want and woe can be lessened, if not entirely eliminated, and the happiness of mankind thereby increased.

While entertaining the greatest respect for physicians and clergymen, and for the noble efforts put forth by them to lessen the distress of their fellow-men, the Christian Scientist believes that there is a better way than theirs.
