I desire to express my gratitude for the healing which came to me in Christian Science. A year ago last August, I was to mortal sense, at the point of death, having undergone an operation for gall stones and appendicitis eight months before, which left me in a dreadful condition. The prostration was so great, I wished to die. I had the best of doctors, who did all they could for me, but they could not help me. My side healed up, but I could not eat or sleep. I cannot describe my suffering.

A friend told me of Christian Science,—that it could help me. I thought I would try it, but had no faith in it; for I did not see why God could heal me in that faith, as I had prayed so earnestly out of Science for my recovery.

I see now that I was looking to a far-away God. What beautiful words those are in Science and Health, where it begins, "Take heart, dear sufferer" (p. 573). I shall never forget all they meant to me, when I was so sad. I have often thought that Mrs. Eddy knew how much we needed those comforting words. I have a deep sense of gratitude and love to her who has shown us the light, and to the dear practitioner and the friends who have helped me in Science. My desire is to live nearer to God. I have been able in many ways to help other, for which I am thankful.
