It is now over six years since I first heard of Christian Science
It is now over six years since I first heard of Christian Science. At that time, while having no special trouble, I was tired all the time and hardly knew what it was to be free backache or headache. I had been to several doctors without being relieved for any length of time; my appetite was very poor, and at this time I was subsisting chiefly on malt.
A Christian Scientist had been asked to call at our house to explain something of Christian Science, with the hope that another member of the family might consent to take treatment. I was present during the conversation, but was very much opposed to what I then believed Christian Science to be. I mentioned to this gentleman how I was feeling. and as he was leaving us he said he could not go without giving me a thought, which was that when I was tired, to think that I was made in the image and likeness of God, that He could not be tired, therefore I could not be tired. This did not appeal to me as being very reasonable, but I said nothing. However, the thought clung to me,—I could not get rid of it. I had always been subject to severe colds, often being confined to the house two or three weeks and sometimes to my bed, and after this time, when being exposed to any of the mortal mind laws regarding colds, I found myself repeating, "I am God's child and cannot take cold," with the result that I began immediately to improve, although I did not interest myself enough to take up the study right away. I finished taking what malt was in the house, but did not get more, and since that time have taken no medicine whatever, do not remember that I have ever been confined to the house one day on account of sickness, and have almost forgotten what backache and headache and headache are.
For all the physical benefits, for the privilege of class instruction, and more than all else for the spiritual uplifting that comes through the study of the Bible and Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, I feel that I cannot be grateful enough.—E. M. M., Mount Vernon, N. Y.
