I came into Christian Science about thirteen years ago,...
I came into Christian Science about thirteen years ago, through the healing of my son, who was then twelve years of age. He had been afflicted with St. Vitus's dance for three or four years. It was a very severe case. His eyes became affected, and the sight of one eye was entirely lost. He was under the care of doctors all these years, but grew worse instead of better. I was living in the West at the time, and my relatives in Brooklyn advised me to bring him here and try the physicians of this place. I did so, but with no better result than before.
A friend called upon me and asked me why I did not try Christian Science. I told her I had never heard of it, and asked her what it was. She talked for more than an hour, and as I listened and asked many questions, I thought it the most beautiful religion I had ever heard of. She directed me to a pioneer Scientist of Brooklyn. I placed my son under her care, and after the first treatment I could see improvement. In the course of three or four weeks, he was entirely healed of the nervous trouble, and at the end of six weeks, called to me one night, saying, "Mamma, I can see with both eyes now!" and in a childish way was holding his hand, first over one eye, and then over the other, saying, "Yes, there is no difference. I can see just as well with one as with the other." Such a happy boy as he was, and such a happy mother too! Every one remarked the change. He was under size for his age, but he began to grow and he stands to-day five feet ten inches. This was thirteen years ago, and he has never had a return of the disease, nor has his sight failed. To me this is one of the most beautiful demonstrations of the power of Truth and Love,—its enduring power.
I am indeed grateful to our beloved Leader who has brought to us such marvelous light, also for the loving care of the faithful practitioner who proved that in Christian Science such things are not only possible but divinely natural.—J. H., Brooklyn, N. Y.
