"TRIED AND PURIFIED"

Mary Baker Eddy writes on page 22 of the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," "Love is not hasty to deliver us from temptation, for Love means that we shall be tried and purified."

As we come to understand the teaching of Christian Science that God is Love, that God is All, and that man is God's perfect image and likeness, we find ourselves ushered into a new and higher state of thought. But have we truly accepted our new position? Are we ready to acknowledge all that the spiritual facts imply, or are we merely dreaming of comforts and of the escape from discomforts?

There is a way to find out. Experience confronts us with testing times. For example, a trusted friend may turn against us. What is our reaction? Is it one of dismay, or is it one of resentment? Or do we go forward, unimpressed by evil, denying its reality, and meeting it with true wisdom?
