"The steps of a good man are...

"The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord" (Ps. 37:23). This was the helpful assurance given me by a Christian Science practitioner to whom I turned several years ago for help in working out a more satisfying sense of business activity.

One particular night I was overwhelmed by a sense of dread and a feeling that I would never really find my niche. As I sincerely reached out to God for help, a passage from our textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, came to me. Here, writing of her search of the Scriptures to discover the Science of Mind-healing, Mrs. Eddy says (p. 109), "The search was sweet, calm, and buoyant with hope, not selfish nor depressing."

I asked myself what I was really searching for. Was I seeking a job or a clearer understanding of God and my relationship to Him? If the latter, then my search, like Mrs. Eddy's, should be "sweet, calm, and buoyant with hope."
