THE QUALITY OF MERCY
"Mercy " is a beautiful and significant word. Mercy must be practiced by all who would demonstrate their perfection as God's image and likeness.
It is not just a beautiful idea. It is much more than forgiveness. It is withholding judgment, expressing patience with another's mistakes, having compassionate understanding of those who are not Christian Scientists, being kind toward our so-called enemies, and defending the defenseless.
It is stopping in our busy life to help the helpless among all forms of life, even to turning over a beetle struggling on its back. It is to show mercy, as Christ Jesus did, without question. He did not make a point of the ancestry of one who appealed to him for healing in order to determine whether or not he was worthy of help, nor did he ask one why he had fallen into sin. He rebuked the error, wiping out even its memory, and healed the afflicted one.
