As far back as I can remember...

As far back as I can remember, I have always enjoyed swimming, for it gives me a sense of freedom and buoyancy. At one time I lived not far from a very fine swimming pool, and I tried to get over to it at least once a week. It was a requirement of the attendant to examine the feet of each person before he entered the pool, and I complied with this rule.

One day, upon examining my feet, the attendant told me that I would have to report to the nurse in charge, for I had something on the bottom of my foot. I told her I thought it was nothing but a callus, but she said: "No, I don't think so. However, in any event, it will be necessary for you to comply with my request."

After the nurse examined my foot, she told me that it had a growth which would have to be cut out or burned out. I felt disappointed that I could not go swimming and alarmed that the growth was present. I knew I would have to work out the problem in Christian Science, because I was convinced that there is no other real healing power but that of God.
