"AN ATMOSPHERE THAT HEALS AND SAVES"

One mission of a Church of Christ, Scientist, is to give forth the pure, healing truth of God, divine Principle, Love. Mankind are hungering and yearning for a dear knowledge of God, sometimes without realizing it. For this reason the atmosphere of Christian Science churches should so reflect the spiritual right thinking of its members that the new inquirer, as well as the seasoned member, will always be benefited by attending church services.

Mary Baker Eddy says in "Miscellaneous Writings" (p. 260), "Pure Mind gives out an atmosphere that heals and saves." Farther on she says, "The spirit, and not the letter, performs the vital functions of Truth and Love." Nothing can be substituted for the church services. They provide a healing atmosphere in which the spiritual significance of the Lesson-Sermon in the Christian Science Quarterly is evidenced, and they reveal the ever-presence of God, divine Mind.

Sometimes when a student is first learning of the healing power of Christian Science, he thinks only of the individual benefits such a knowledge brings. But continuous progress brings to him responsibilities as well as blessings, if there is to be an uninterrupted unfoldment and growth in his understanding of the Science of being. Part of that progress comes through church attendance, part through membership.
