When I first heard of Christian Science...

When I first heard of Christian Science I was a semi-invalid. One day a woman came to our house, and when she was told of my suffering, she replied, "It is not necessary for you to look as you do or to suffer as you say you do." I thought that if she only knew all I had done in the way of trying different physicians, baths, and changes of climate, she would not say that. But I tried to appear calm, and I asked her what she meant. She replied: "Christian Science can heal you. There is a Christian Science practitioner on your street." That night I was taken to see him.

When the practitioner talked to me about God, I knew that he was telling me the truth I had longed to hear. I thought I would never have another pain or illness again. However, I found that I must gain more of an understanding of God and of my real self as His reflection. The practitioner told me about the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, and I learned that I could buy a copy for three dollars. That seemed a good deal of money to me then. Today if I could not procure another copy I would not part with my Science and Health for all the world could offer. I was shown how to study the Bible Lessons, given in the Christian Science Quarterly, and I later joined and served in a Christian Science Society.

A wonderful thing came into my life when I found Christian Science. Activity has been restored to me, and I have had a life of health, happiness, and usefulness far beyond anything I had expected to know.
