THE MEASURE OF TRUE MANHOOD

After Christ Jesus had been betrayed by Judas, he was brought before Pilate. When the ruler had questioned the Master, he went out and announced to the Jews that he could find no fault in him. "Then came Jesus forth, wearing the crown of thorns, and the purple robe. And Pilate saith unto them, behold the man!" (John 19:5) But neither Pilate nor any of the Master's persecutors knew what manner of man he was. Jesus presented to mankind the perfect example of righteous living, based on the fact that man is the son of God, the idea of Spirit.

In Christian Science we have clear instruction whereby we can learn to follow Jesus in the way of righteousness. How shall we do this work and thus demonstrate the measure of true manhood? Before we can begin to demonstrate this state of being, we must understand what true manhood is as revealed in Christian Science.

In this Science we learn that man is not a corporeal being, a mixture of good and evil, consisting of a material mind and body. Nor is he constituted of material organs. Man is the son of God, of Spirit, and therefore his individuality is spiritual. He possesses a spiritual body or identity. Referring to the true measure of the individual, Mary Baker Eddy writes (Pulpit and Press, p. 4), "Is not a man metaphysically and mathematically number one, a unit, and therefore whole number, governed and protected by his divine Principle, God?"
