SUPPORTING THE WEDNESDAY TESTIMONY MEETING

The Wednesday testimony meetings in Churches of Christ, Scientist, afford the loyal Christian Scientist an opportunity to tell of the blessings which he has experienced through his understanding of Christian Science. In the Manual of The Mother Church, Mary Baker Eddy provides for a period devoted to "experiences, testimonies, and remarks on Christian Science" (see Wednesday Meetings, p. 122). The testimony serves a twofold purpose. First, a sincere and heartfelt expression of gratitude always blesses those to whom it is addressed. Secondly, this expression of gratitude, enabling the giver to rise above the limitations of personal sense, blesses him. This false sense would sometimes tell him that he has nothing of value to say, that he cannot speak well, or that some who are watching him and listening are critical.

Our Leader, Mrs. Eddy, makes a direct denial of such erroneous thinking in her statement in "No and Yes" (p. 17): "Man is the climax of creation; and God is not without an ever-present witness, testifying of Himself." Fear fades away when the testifier obediently rises, knowing that man reflects God, and then lets the one Mind direct his thought and speech.

If the testimony should meet the need of but one person, this would be sufficient evidence of the Christ; but since Love is universal in its blessing, the entire world receives the grace bestowed upon it by the individual's grateful acknowledgment of God's all-power.
