Signs of the Times

Rev. Harry E. Chapin in a guest editorial in the Sheridan Press, Wyoming

The one person who knew more about prayer ... than any other was Jesus Christ, the Son of God. His example of prayer is outstanding, for always He was in the spirit of prayer. See Him making great life decisions, performing what we call miracles, or even receiving the little gifts of life, and He was careful to express in prayer His gratitude. ... This spirit of prayer was practiced by His disciples in the early history of His church. The task of bringing Christ to the world was so great they needed the power of prayer. ...

These are great days in which we live. It is time for every person who believes in God to exercise his privilege and power of prayer. ... God expects us to do what we are able to do. It is in man's extremity that we see God's opportunity. ... Good statesmen need to be upheld by prayer. Government officials need our prayers. World leaders need our prayers. The untold suffering millions in other lands need our prayers. No one is too old to pray. Let the power and love of God be felt in this weary old world by the power of prayer.
