HOME

One of the most persistent desires of the human heart is for a satisfactory and happy home. Much human effort usually accompanies this desire. For some it means a constant, conscientious struggle for security; others accept their idea of home as a matter of course and do little else about it. In moments of frustration, some have fled from home only to return to its protective shelter like the prodigal in Jesus' parable who said (Luke 15:18), "I will arise and go to my father."

Mary Baker Eddy, realizing the great value of home to the individual, once said that she wanted all her students to have homes of their own. Speaking of the spiritual sense of home, she said in substance (Twelve Years with Mary Baker Eddy by Irving C. Tomlinson, p. 156), "Home is not a place but a power."

Man's true home is in Spirit. The childlike thought based on purity and love finds most ready entrance to this spiritual dwelling place.
