"YEA, YEA; NAY, NAY"

Christ Jesus, our great Way-shower, indicated that the Christian should show forth his integrity in his speech as well as in his actions. In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus told his listeners (Matt. 5:37), "Let your communication be, Yea, yea; Nay, nay: for whatsoever is more than these cometh of evil."

This instruction is important for the health, harmony, and success of the student of Christian Science. It is his duty to faithfully declare and attest in his daily life, without variation, the eternal truths concerning God and man set forth in the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. He is bound to be consistent in his affirmations and denials. He cannot depart from the "Yea, yea" and "Nay, nay" demanded by Jesus.

On page 107 of Science and Health, Mrs. Eddy refers to Christian Science as the final revelation of the absolute truth regarding spiritual healing. Of the textbook, which sets forth the revelation, she writes (ibid., p. 110) "No human pen nor tongue taught me the Science contained in this book, Science and Health and neither tongue nor pen can overthrow it. This book may be distorted by shallow criticism or by careless or malicious students, and its ideas may be temporarily abused and misrepresented; but the Science and truth therein will forever remain to be discerned and demonstrated."
