REAL SELFHOOD

Two little girls who attended a Christian Science Sunday School found the truths they learned there continually useful in daily living. They especially loved hearing about the real man, whose nature is always good, and they saw clearly that an erring, mortal personality is no part of God's perfect creation. It became their habit whenever one or the other of them appeared to evidence unkindness or ill-humor to declare forcibly, "That's not your real selfhood!"

In the light of Christian Science these children were declaring a fundamental truth. Error is never the real selfhood of anyone; lack never is; sickness never is. Good alone is the perpetual attribute of God's man, the man described in Genesis (1:27) as made "in his own image, in the image of God."

Mary Baker Eddy says in "Miscellaneous Writings" (pp. 1,2), "Goodness reveals another scene and another self seemingly rolled up in shades, but brought to light by the evolutions of advancing thought, whereby we discern the power of Truth and Love to heal the sick."
