Christian Science has sustained me for almost forty years. It has brought me great peace, and it helped me to raise my growing family with calmness and poise. We have had many healings, and I was once brought back from what is called death's door by the earnest work of a practitioner.

Property losses during the depression years proved to be my gain, for I was shown how much wiser it is to "lay up for [ourselves] treasures in heaven" (Matt. 6:20). In 1936 my older daughter and I were sitting in our small library. We had done some prayerful work to realize our rightful place and substance. It was autumn, and the child was getting ready to enter high school.

"Mother," she said, "I wonder how things will be four years from now when I leave high school. I wonder if I will go on to college."
