MAINTENANCE OF HARMONIOUS RELATIONSHIPS

The maintenance of harmony in human relationships is assured when we let spiritual sense govern our attitude toward each other and through our understanding of Christian Science overcome a personal sense of man.

Should we find ourselves in a relationship that does not seem to be working out very well, we can know scientifically that our true relationship is with God and His spiritual ideas. No idea can really be unhappy about God, displeased with Him, or envious of Him. No friction can ever spring up between God and His ideas. The relationship which binds God and man together as one in unity and harmony cannot be breached or rendered invalid. Mary Baker Eddy writes in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p.503), "The divine Principle and idea constitute spiritual harmony,—heaven and eternity."

Thus the basis of true relationship is between the individual idea and its divine Principle, Love. Christ Jesus was perhaps trying to convey to his hearers a sense of the unity or inseparability of Principle and its ideas in his memorable words (Mark 3:35), "Whosoever shall do the will of God, the same is my brother, and my sister, and mother." To be harmonious with each other, we must first of all realize our conscious harmony with that which is the divine Principle and cause of our being.
