THE HEARING EAR

Our peace of mind depends to a large extent on the kind of listening we do. Our individual consciousness is continually being blessed by good or invaded by error according to the kind of thoughts we entertain. This we well know, but when we consider how much our thoughts are influenced by what we hear, it behooves us to watch our listening carefully.

The ear of the Christian Scientist should be attuned to the voice of God, good. Reasoning from a scientific basis, the Scientist knows that true listening is never involuntary. Mortal mind clamors constantly to be heard through the channels of material thinking. We cannot afford to be apathetic listeners. We are arbiters of the thoughts we allow to enter and control our lives. How important that we listen well!

Early in her experience as a student of Christian Science the writer suffered from blocked air passages in her ears which caused much distress and discomfort. As she faithfully studied the weekly Lesson-Sermon, outlined in the Christian Science Quarterly, and diligently listened for God's direction, the condition lessened and was finally healed permanently. Looking back on this healing, she sees that Christian Science alerted her to the necessity of right listening.
