"THE ALTAR OF DIVINE SCIENCE"

A Consecrated study of Christian Science inspires one to devote his whole life to serving the sacred Cause of Truth, a devotion which necessarily involves great personal sacrifice. But the achievement of this noble aim is often so thwarted by seemingly insurmountable problems that the student may be tempted to feel that his goal is unattainable. Through Christian Science, however, humble and complete devotion to God is found to be not only possible but also practical today.

In the Christian world an altar symbolizes sacrifice. Although the Christian Science church dispenses with symbols, such as a material altar, students of this Science discover within themselves another altar—a spiritually mental one— which is indispensable to spiritual growth.

The Scriptures do not record that Christ Jesus ever used a material altar. And yet in his life experience he bowed humbly in the supreme sacrifice of all worldliness. Jesus' sacrifice took place not in any outward observance or ceremonial act, but within consciousness. It was within the unseen sanctuary of Christliness that he consistently laid down the false sense of self and demonstrated man's sonship with God. It was in constant prayer and communion with divine Love that his sublime sacrifice was made. His demonstration of the Christ was evidenced in his wonderful healing ministry and in his resurrection and final ascension above all matter.
