CHILDREN OF ISRAEL

Jacob wrestled and, persisting,
Conquered error, welcomed Truth,
Saw the folly of demanding
Eye for eye and tooth for tooth.

He arose from his Peniel,
Where these great events befell,
Blessed by angel inspiration
With the name of Israel.

When we overcome temptation,
Loose ourselves from error's claims,
We are ready for the blessing
That attends diviner aims.

Like the patriarch in Scripture,
Laboring at his task alone,
When we through devotion triumph,
Spirit names us as its own.
