PROVING THAT THERE IS NO ACCUSER

When John on the Isle of Patmos beheld the glory, supremacy, and eternal perfection of God and the power of the Christ, he saw too, with tremendous joy, that there could be, then, no accuser. From the mount of spiritual illumination he wrote (Rev.12: 10), "The accuser of our brethren is cast down." Here is the Scriptural promise—here is the Word of God set down for all time. What a glorious revelation—no accuser, hence no accused!

Are we quick to rejoice in the undeviating compassion of Love when we are confronted with a problem which we recognize to be the result of momentary negligence on our part? And when we have resolved not to repeat the error, do we hold fast to the eternal perfection of God's universe in which there can be no sinful act because there is no sinful man? Do we instantly repudiate the false suggestion that punishment pursues us even when we have regretted some unintentional misstep?

Original Bible texts define the devil as a false accuser, and Mary Baker Eddy defines devil as a lie. She also includes remorse, suffering, and self-imposed agony with lust and hatred in her definition of hell on page 588 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures." We would not entertain thoughts of hate toward another, and yet we sometimes admit the accuser by accepting the lie of self-condemnation without an iota of resistance. But the Scripture assures us (Rom. 8:1), "There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit."
