My husband and I became interested...

My husband and I became interested in Christian Science just prior to World War I. and through the years since then we have been blessed by its protective and healing power. Our son and our daughter attended a Christian Science Sunday School, beginning in the class for the youngest children and remaining in the Sunday School until they reached the age of twenty. Through the loving help of a practitioner our daughter was healed of a severe case of spinal meningitis. A testimony of this healing appeared in the Sentinel of June 2, 1928.

When he was sixteen years old our son contracted blood poisoning in both legs. As the condition did not yield to our declarations of Truth, a practitioner was asked for help. Then the legs began to drain, and within a few days the healing was complete. He served in the Marine Corps during World War II for three and a half years in the United States, in the Pacific area, and in China. He was completely protected through the entire time.

During the Korean conflict he was recalled to active duty as a Marine Corps officer. I knew from his letters that he was having a difficult experience, but I accepted no feeling of resentment toward the so-called enemies. I would declare the truth, and the promises in the ninety-first Psalm were a great comfort. Many times at night I would awaken and read from our textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, our beloved Leader, always giving thanks to God for His loving care. Our son was wounded by a machine-gun bullet, which went through his knee, leaving a serious wound that the Navy doctors said would take a long time to heal and might never heal entirely. He did earnest work for himself in Christian Science and also had the help of a practitioner. As a result he was walking normally in two months, and in six months he returned to active duty. Shortly thereafter he applied for integration as a regular in order to make service in the Marine Corps his career. This necessitated a very thorough medical examination, which he passed, and he was integrated with the same rank he had held as a reserve officer.
