I can think of no better way to express my gratitude than to acknowledge some of the many healings and blessings that have been mine since I found Christian Science in 1903. Some of them have come through treatments given by practitioners. Others have come through my own study and application of the truth, which Mary Baker Eddy makes available to us in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" and in her other writings.

For some time I had numerous attacks of heart trouble. During the last attack I tried to telephone a practitioner, but was not able to do so. When the end seemed near, I cried out, "God is closer to me than breathing." Immediately I was free. I returned to my work and have had no recurrence of the trouble. In 1913 I was healed of a tumor after I refused to consent to an operation. The following passage from Hebrews (4: 12) came to me, and I repeated it aloud: "The word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword." Some time later the tumor came away.

A very severe attack of lumbago was overcome when a friend repeated the Lord's Prayer to me. Later a lighter attack came, but it ceased in about an hour while I was reading Science and Health. No further difficulty of that kind has been experienced.
