ALWAYS IN THE RIGHT PLACE

[Of Special Interest to Children]

It was one of those nice, warm spring mornings. Keith was outside happily playing in front of his house, watching for the school car to come and take him to kindergarten. Every morning he could hardly wait to get to school to see his friends and find out what wonderful plans the teacher had made for them that day. When it was almost time for the car to be there, Keith suddenly went running into his house, sobbing that he had torn his finger while playing. He said it hurt so much that he did not want to go to school.

Then he sat down with his mother right in the middle of the stairs to figure out what the truth was that would help him. They both remembered a little story which they had read in a pamphlet published for children by The Christian Science Publishing Society about a rose in a room full of mirrors. The story explains that one reflection cannot decide to be yellow if the real rose is red, nor can another decide to be droopy if the real one is straight and sturdy. It was easy then to see that the reflection of God could not be unhappy or hurt, because God could never be unhappy or hurt.

In "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" Mary Baker Eddy tells us (p. 207): "There is but one primal cause. Therefore there can be no effect from any other cause, and there can be no reality in aught which does not proceed from this great and only cause." Keith and his mother were sure that "this great and only cause," which is God, was keeping His child in his right place all the time. All God's ideas express this cause, since they are reflections of God, just as the roses in the mirrors reflected the real rose in the center of the room.
