In deep gratitude to our Father-Mother God,...

In deep gratitude to our Father-Mother God, to Christ Jesus, our Way-shower, and to our dear Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, I join the paean of praise and thanksgiving which continuously rises from grateful students of Christian Science the world over.

Brought up in an atmosphere of fear and nervous tension, I was extremely fearful, self-conscious, and delicate. Science was introduced into our home by a friend, and my oldest sister investigated it before she mentioned it to the rest of the family. Being satisfied that it was of God, she asked me if I would like to visit a Christian Science practitioner. I consented, not knowing what a practitioner was and feeling very nervous about the interview. However, my fears were allayed by a talk with the sweetest woman I had ever met. Slowly but surely through her loving work I began to realize my freedom from bondage.

All my life I had been afflicted with stammering, which was believed to be hereditary and which worried me intensely. My prayer from childhood was, "Father, give me speech; and I will use it for Thee." Through Science this prayer has been answered, for the stammering has been overcome, and I have had the joyous privilege of introducing a Christian Science lecturer and of serving as Second Reader in the branch Church of Christ, Scientist, of which I am a member. These experiences were to me wonderful proofs of the power of divine Love, because I had grown up convinced that I could never read aloud or speak in public. But certainly, as Mrs. Eddy tells us (Science and Health, p. 225), "Love is the liberator." I can never express in words my gratitude to the loving practitioner who so gently yet firmly encouraged me to go forward in this sacred truth, to keep close to God, and to lean on Him.
