December 12 is a significant day for First Church of Christ, Scientist, Orpington... On that day the church at Knoll-rise will lie dedicated....

Christian Science was introduced at Orpington in 1919 as the result of the complete healing of [a woman] ... of rheumatism.... The original group met at [the home of a member] for Sunday evening services and Sunday School for some three years. The [gathering] grew until, in 1921, a studio at St. John's road, Orpington, was rented, and in 1928 the [group] was formed into Christian Science Society, Orpington, becoming a recognized branch of The Mother Church, The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Massachusetts.
