Christian Science is the religion...

Christian Science is the religion of Love, of giving and sharing. For many years I have received abundant divine blessings, and with a heart full of gratitude I should now like to share some of the healings that have taken place in my experience over a period of years.

With the help of a practitioner my son was healed of a deep gash on the sole of his foot caused by stepping on a piece of tin. The cut would doubtless have required numerous stitches under medical treatment. I was healed of quinsy and of badly chapped hands. These healings have been permanent.

In Science and Health our Leader, Mrs. Eddy, writes (p. 392), "Stand porter at the door of thought." Some time ago I failed to do this, and I allowed erroneous suggestions to enter my consciousness and take control of me. I suddenly found myself in a deplorable condition, suffering from a nervous breakdown. All desire for food left me; I slept very little and wept almost constantly. The suggestion of suicide was always with me.

I sought help from a practitioner. His courage, steadfastness, confidence, and faithfulness to the healing truth were constantly a beacon to me. There was a great resistance in my thought to the truth, but the practitioner kept reminding me that I was the child of God, free and loving.

Although it took a number of months for the complete healing, I have been peaceful, free, useful, and active ever since. With all my heart I am thankful to God for Mrs. Eddy's discovery of Christian Science and for the practitioner who stood with me during all hours of the day and night. With deep reverence and humility I pray daily for that Mind to be in me "which was also in Christ Jesus" (Phil. 2: 5).—(Mrs.) Pearl Gootrad, Rego Park, Long Island, New York.
