"Make a joyful noise unto the Lord, all ye lands. Serve the Lord with gladness: come before his presence with singing. ... Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name." These words from the one hundredth Psalm contain six exhortations that have been of much help to me. We are to be joyful, serve with gladness, sing, praise God, be thankful, and bless His name. What a privilege it is to do each of these!

When I began reading Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, I marveled at its logical and convincing explanations of the Scriptures, which contradicted the teachings of my early religious training concerning a hell of fire and a heaven with pearly gates. The former I hoped to escape, and the latter appeared impossible of attainment.

Before long I went to visit a sister living in another city, where the public schools had been closed on account of an epidemic of influenza. On arising one morning I manifested the symptoms of this disease. At once I decided that I had an opportunity to prove what I knew of my new-found religion. I began to apply the truth, using as a basis for my treatment the affirmations and denials in "the scientific statement of being," given on page 468 of Science and Health, and continued until I fell asleep. In about two hours I awoke healed. I was overjoyed and somewhat surprised, as I had only a slight understanding of Christian Science at that time. Afterward, however, I realized the power of the truths that I had used.
