A Class of Girls

[Contributed by a teacher in a branch church Sunday School]

Someone has rightly said that the attitude and the mental altitude of the teacher determine the progress of the children. When the teacher in inspired with the glory and majesty of the truth that is being taught, the children respond. But we cannot impart what we do not know; and we understand only as much of the Christ, Truth, as we demonstrate.

As I ponder the text (John 6: 45), "They shall be all taught of God," it becomes more apparent to me that divine Mind, being the only intelligence, is necessarily the only teacher and that as I reflect the qualities of this Mind I am able to teach as I myself am taught of God. Thus the words spoken are living words of Truth, and they are accepted because spoken with the conviction that "I do nothing of myself; but as my Father hath taught me, I speak these things" (John 8:28).

In teaching my class of older girls, ways and means of presenting the truth are varied to give freshness to the hour. But the Christian Science Quarterly Bible Lesson is always the center from which the teaching unfolds by means of questions and answers as required by Article XX, Section 3, of the Manual of The Mother Church by Mary Baker Eddy.
