As students of Christian Science...

As students of Christian Science we learn to place complete reliance on God. I experienced a most harmonious childbirth as a result of adhering to this basic premise, and I should like to relate it in proof of Mrs. Eddy's statement (Science and Health, p. 453), "A Christian Scientist's medicine is Mind, the divine Truth that makes man free."

Prior to the birth of our son I did not once visit a doctor for physical examination or medical information, nor did I consult any medical books or pamphlets on the subject of childbirth. I found that it was wise to avoid conversations of this nature. A month or so before the baby was expected I made arrangements with a doctor to deliver the baby in my home. He requested that I have a physical examination, but I refused with a sense of freedom rather than of fear.

One night I awoke with the realization that my confinement was at hand. My husband immediately called a practitioner, who began to work for us. Then he called the doctor to deliver the baby. A few minutes later, before the doctor arrived, the baby was born and was safely delivered by my husband and sister. My sister, who was not a Christian Scientist, was surprised at the ease and rapidity of the birth.
