Mary Baker Eddy writes in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 3), "Are we really grateful for the good already received?" Having attended a Christian Science Sunday School from the age of three until I was twenty, and since then having been a member of The Mother Church and a branch church, I can declare with conviction that Christian Science has blessed me almost all my life. I have received so much good through an understanding of this Science that I must express my gratitude in writing, for it is only through acknowledgment of God as the source of all good that we are able to continue being aware of His blessings.
During my period of conscription in the Royal Air Force I awoke early one morning to find that an illness from which I had suffered occasionally had returned in such a serious form that I was unable to move from my bed. I asked a friend to telephone a Christian Science practitioner for me and, in accordance with regulations, to inform the station sick quarters. He returned to say that the practitioner was helping me; he also said that the ambulance would be unable to come for me for half an hour. During this time, although the pain continued to be severe, I endeavored to understand that there could be no lapse from harmony. By the time the ambulance drew up, an immense sense of relief and joy had filled my consciousness, and as the orderlies opened the door of my billet I knew that I was healed. I rose and went in the ambulance to the sick quarters, where I informed the medical officer that Christian Science had already healed me. He examined me and declared that I was indeed perfectly fit.
The above experience is but one of many proofs I have received of the efficacy of Christian Science, the healing power of which extends to all walks of daily life. For these healings I am truly grateful to our beloved Leader, Mrs. Eddy. I am also grateful for membership in The Mother Church and a branch church, as well as in a Christian Science Organization, which is an integral part of my university life.—N. Leonard Alderson, Reading, Berkshire, England.
